Awards

Award Recipients for 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator are Coleen Altermott and Sydney Fee

Coleen Altermott

Coleen Altermott makes math fun for the students! She tries different ways to explain the material so that all the students can understand the concepts. And, she loves Star Wars!

Students love her and appreciate her spirit.  They will often find her at school-sponsored events cheering on students louder than their own parents.  She is a great team player, shares her ideas with others, recognizes when issues are present and provides solutions rather than simply offering a complaint.

Ms. Altermott works with and alongside her students to make sure they progress through her math courses. She makes herself available to her students.

She is really nice and goes out of her way to help kids who may be falling behind in the coursework.

Sydney Fee
She has gone above and beyond celebrating the students all year round and cares about all the little things. She works nights and weekends (even with small children at home) to support the ASB and to make sure they get everything done they need to do for events. She is also a super supporter of the PTSA and helps to bring parents and students together! Thank you for all you do Mrs. Fee!

Syndey Fee lives and breaths Bothell spirit.  She is 100% an advocate for students, listens to them, and finds ways to seek and include their voices.  She allows students to lead, make mistakes, and learn from them which is much more authentic than simply telling them what to do and how.  She wears more blue and promotes more Bothell swag than anyone.  When staff members step down from advisor roles or support roles, Sydney steps in to fill them.  Sydney works hard to help staff through the dreaded budgeting process and does her best to share the importance of truly a student-led organization.

Golden Acorn Award 2019-2020
Jennifer Spanton

Jennifer did an amazing job orchestrating all of the staff appreciation meals this year! It’s a lot of hard work to coordinate and set up. I believe that she also volunteered as needed for other things that came up.

Jennifer is always willing to help out whenever needed. She wasn’t sure how she would do with Staff Appreciation, but she nailed it and went above and beyond!  She is always smiling and blessing others by cheering up a room just walking into it.  She puts people at ease and always offers an ear and a hand!

Super cheerful and has great ideas! She’s very organized and prepared. We appreciate all her work for the students and the staff!

Golden Acorn Award

Each year PTSA gives Golden Acorn Awards to people who have given exemplary volunteer services to children and youth in our school community. The Golden Acorn Award is very special and is given for continued and dedicated services. This is an excellent way to honor PTSA members for their contributions to this association. When we present a Golden Acorn Award, that individual is given a gold pin in the shape of an acorn, and a special certificate. We also contribute $65.00 in the person’s name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Foundation. This foundation provides scholarships each year totaling approximately $66,000 to Washington State high school graduates entering their freshman year at a college, university or vocational school of their choice. BHS PTSA AWARDS 2020

Outstanding Educator Award

The enthusiasm and diversity that an educator brings to the classroom directly influences the success of a student. The benefit of presenting an Outstanding Educator Award is twofold. First, this award enables PTAs to recognize innovative and successful individuals. Secondly, it supports scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary education. Donations are made in each recipient’s name to the fund, which in turn contributes to the future of youth by awarding scholarships to students who are freshmen entering post secondary education. Think of an individual – a teacher, assistant, custodian, bus driver, administrator or community member – who has gone beyond the normal expectations of their job to make the learning environment fun, beneficial, and challenging. This person is a worthy candidate for the Outstanding Educator Award, so please consider nominating them. BHS PTSA AWARDS 2020

Outstanding Advocate

The benefit of presenting an Outstanding Advocate Award is two-fold. First, this award enables PTAs to recognize individuals for their advocacy work on issues concerning children and youth. Secondly, it supports scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary education. Donations are made in each recipient’s name to the fund, which in turn contributes to the future of youth by awarding scholarships to students who are freshmen entering post secondary education. If you know of someone who is an impassioned and compassionate leader, dedicated to advocating for the health, welfare, safety and education of ALL children, and committed to ensuring that others do the same, they are the perfect nominee for this Award. BHS PTSA AWARDS 2020

The recipient of each of the above awards receives a special pin and certificate from WSPTA, and BHS PTSA makes a monetary contribution in each recipient’s name to the WSPTA financial grant program.

If you would like to nominate someone for any of these awards, please email your recommendations before April 30, 2020, to Samantha Winsky, PTSA president at president@bhsptsa.com. Please include your contact information along with any known contact information of the nominee, as well as all the reasons why this person would be eligible for the award. Thank you.
